Power outage affects thousands in north Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - After an hours-long early morning power outage in north Amarillo, the lights are now back on for residents.

The power went out just after 5:00 Monday morning affecting nearly 2,800 residents.

Xcel Energy says there were transmission issues on the line feeding the Cherry Street substation which caused low voltage issues.

Areas of north Amarillo near Cherry and River Road were without power until crews were able to switch to an alternative source Xcel says power was restored to all customers before 7:30.

    Just a little before 5p.m. on Thursday, crews removed the helicopter, and reopened Gore Boulevard to traffic. The crash had forced police to shut down a seven-block section of Gore Boulevard from 31st Street to 38th Street for most of the day.

    LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Five neighborhood watch groups joined together to offer lunch to local police officers and firefighters today. Officers were invited out to enjoy chicken with sides and dessert free of charge. This is the second year that they have held this event and they are hoping to get more attendees than last year.
